Funeral Homes: A End and a Beginning

Tips To Make A Cremation Special

Too many people make the mistake of skipping the idea of a cremation and opt for a burial, just because they assume that the cremation services will not be special enough. However, you can still make the cremation service very special. Here are a few ways you can do that:

Have A Cremation Ceremony

This is a ceremony that happens before the actual cremation process. If you wish, you can opt to have the dearly departed laid out in a casket in the viewing room. Many funeral homes now offer caskets that can be rented for this exact purpose. Even if the deceased was not religious, a religious service can still be provided if many of their loved ones are of a specific faith. Then again, you can opt for a non-religious service if you wish. Talk with the funeral home director about the different types of services they offer. If you are not finding what you are looking for, you can call other funeral homes in the area.

Consider Using A Biodegradable Urn

If you are fond of the cremation option, but are not sure that you want to keep the ashes in your home, you can spread them in the ocean, in a nearby creek, in a field, or even bury them under a tree that you will be planting to memorialize your loved one. You could just open the container the ashes are placed in at the funeral home, but that can be hard if the wind picks up at the wrong time. If you want to make sure that the ashes go exactly where you want for them to go, use a biodegradable urn. Such urns can be buried or tossed into the water. They break down over time and do not hurt the environment. If the funeral home you are using sells urns, you can ask them about the biodegradable ones. If they do not have any, you can always buy them online and transfer your loved one's ashes when you are ready.

You might also want to ask around to see if any of your friends have planned or recently attended a cremation service. Ask them about what they liked the most and what they wish would have been different. Between the advice received from loved ones and the information above, you should have a much easier time once you need to officially plan the cremation service.
